Description: 

Teacher is an independent contractor responsible for instructing courses as offered by VSA at mutually determined times, as defined in the teacher contract. Teachers are the most important component in a learning environment; therefore, VSA hires only the most qualified professionals to teach in our setting.

Some Responsibilities:

  1. Teach within the bounds of the Veritas Statement of Faith.
  2. Operate within all parameters of the VSA Teacher Handbook.
  3. Teach classes at regularly scheduled times.
  4. Grade and return all assignments within 48 hours. Exception: Papers greater than two pages are to be returned no later than 10 days past the submission due date.
  5. Attend monthly teacher meetings.
  6. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of learning technologies (Learning Management System (LMS), online classroom).
  7. Communicate routinely with students’ families (primarily messaging in LMS), specifically regarding student performance and progress.
  8. Respond to families’ communications the same day when possible, and no later than two business days.
  9. Communicate with students a minimum of one week before classes begin to ensure course expectations are clearly conveyed.
  10. Communicate with students as needed outside of scheduled class hours to support and answer questions.
  11. Complete quarterly comments to keep students and families well informed of students’ progress.
  12. Ensure final grades are assigned and available for viewing by the close of the school year.
  13. Assist administration in making placement determinations based upon students’ competency levels.
  14. Maintain close contact with parents when students show signs of struggling in a course. Be prepared to offer well-considered, insightful solutions for struggling learners.

  1. Conversant with and supportive of the reformed faith and classical Christian education according to the VSA Statement of Faith and Philosophy
  2. Understanding one’s discipline with a strong biblical worldview
  3. Ever-increasing familiarity with and appreciation for VSA curriculum
  4. Skilled in effective communication via messaging and phone
  5. Energized by interactions with students and families
  6. Loves children, particularly the ages being taught
  7. Has a servant’s heart and is relationship-minded
  8. Works diligently day to day under direct and indirect supervision
  9. Operates with a high level of professionalism, continually pursuing excellence

Physical Demands:

  1. Standing, walking and sitting for long periods of time
  2. Extensive typing on QWERTY style keyboard
  3. Extensive viewing of lighted computer monitor
  4. Speaking and hearing
  5. Reaching and bending
  6. Lifting up to 25 lbs
  7. Using hands to perform tasks
  8. Working in standard office conditions with and near electronics

Education:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  2. An advanced degree is desirable.
